How do I turn subtitles on when watching the videos?
At the bottom of the video screen on the right-hand side, you will see a group of icons just after the play bar and next to the cog logo on the bottom right. Click on the subtitles/closed caption icon as pictured below. Click on the icon and select captions in any of the available languages. The default language is English.
I have a sight impairment, how can I see My Stroke Guide better?
Most modern browsers have accessibility features to help you. We recommend you update your browser to the latest version so you can get the benefits of the latest accessibility features, privacy and security.
If you are using Safari on an Apple device like a Mac, go to view in the Safari menu or press the key combination Shift+Cmd+R. The page will change to show the site in a more accessible high contrast mode. You can change the colour of the text and background by clicking on the Aa icon to the right of the address bar in the browser.

Google Chrome works on most devices including Macs and PCs. You can zoom in and out when using Chrome by press the Ctrl and + keys on a PC or Cmd and + keys on a Mac.
Out of the box, Chrome has a dark mode to help with contrast and you can add a number of extensions (extra programs that add to Chrome's functionality) to provide more options for contrast, colour and reading the text on the page.
Microsoft Edge replaces Internet Explorer although many devices still use Internet Explorer 11.
To zoom in on the page press the key combination Ctrl and + together. To zoom out press Ctrl and the minus (-) key.
Edge has a built-in feature that reads the content on the page out loud. On a PC running Windows, press the key combination Ctrl+Shift+U and the read-aloud menu bar appears at the top of the page. From the options, you can choose a voice and adjust the speed.
Firefox allows you to zoom in and out the same way as Chrome and Edge. It also has a reader view that works differently from Safari. Firefox reader view removes all the images from a web page and leaves just the text. It will only work on pages it considers to be proper articles.
You will see the reader icon in the address bar if Firefox is able to display the page in reader view.

How do I find information on a topic?
You can find information on many topics surrounding stroke by navigating to the main menu in the purple bar at the top of the page and clicking Information.
Alternatively, you can also search for information using the search bar, in the top right-hand corner of the homepage.
Where does the information in My Stroke Guide come from?
The information in our advice and information pages comes from our own Stroke Association factsheets and other trustworthy sources. If you have any questions about the sources we use and how we check them please contact us.
How do I get started?
Anyone can view the forum and the conversations within it. If you would like to join in the conversations, you will need to sign up for a user account. This article will walk you through the sign up process.

How to I start or join a conversation?
To start a new conversation or topic, just click the "New Topic" button on the right side of the screen. Just above the list of topic categories.

How can I manage my user profile
You can set up how other people view your profile and which emails you receive. This is done through the user menu in the top right of the forum screen. Click on your user icon in top right and then select the little person. From there, you will see an option for 'Preferences.' Clicking on this will take you to a screen where you can make these edits.

How do I send a message?
You can only send a message to another user in the forum. On the forum, navigate to your profile, the circle in the top right-hand corner of the homepage. Then click the envelope icon, this will take you directly to your messages. From there you can view your inbox, send messages, archive and write new messages.
What are the groups for?
The groups in the forum area are for users with shared interests. You can join as many groups as you want or request to set up a new one.
What is the forum for?
The forum is a place for all My Stroke Guide users to talk about anything and everything. On the forum, you can talk to other stroke survivors and it is a friendly place to share advice and tips.
What are the house rules for the forums?
I'm worried about privacy on my device, how can I protect my login?
If you are using a public or shared computer, make sure you log out after using My Stroke Guide. Also, make sure that "keep me logged in" isn't ticked.
How can I delete my account?
You can delete your account at any time by going into your account on the forum, then click "Preferences" and scroll down to "Delete account", or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I contact the Stroke Association?
If you have a question about stroke, you can contact the Stroke Association Helpline on 0303 3033 100 or by sending the Helpline an email at email@example.com. To contact the My Stroke Guide team please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
