Description

Second Chance was formed in 2010 out of a group of Stoke Survivors on their discharge from hospital. It started as an information forum for those who have survived a stroke and quickly became a regular meeting point for survivors providing physiotherapy, social inclusion/activities and cognitive exercise. Membership is open to any person who has survived a Stroke, and is made up of a wide variety of people with differing social, physical and mental needs. We have members who are wheelchair bound who need assistance in transferring, limb weakness (walking and handling issues) speech issues (aphasia) and vascular dementia.
The group is a Stroke Association Support Group which means it exists under the policies and procedures of the Stroke Association but is entirely self-financing. The club meets every Tuesday at Great Barton Village Hall, nr. Bury St Edmunds and consists of a small committee of volunteers including a Chair/Organiser, Secretary, Treasurer and members representative, as well as several ad-hoc and regular volunteers who give up their time free to work with members. Members pay a small subscription of £5.00 per meeting attended to pay for the various activities, speakers, venue hire, physiotherapist, transport and in non-Covid times, outings.
Members come from a wide area East and West of Bury St Edmunds. Where possible we arrange transport for the less able, but this is restricted by cost and funds availability.. ask for details Here is our website and Facebook page for more information:www.secondchancestrokeclub.co.uk https://www.facebook.com/secondchancestrokeclub
