Our funding allows researchers to find new ways to stop stroke happening, and treat and support people to rebuild their lives after stroke.

A new report published today shows that stroke research remains severely underfunded compared to the devastating impact it has on people’s lives. The UK Health Research Analysis 2018 also shows stroke research receives much less funding than many other areas of health research.

We want the research we fund to make a difference in people’s lives. That’s why we think it’s important for researchers to involve stroke survivors in their projects. Stroke survivors’ experiences can improve the quality of research, and help researchers to be more confident that their work will benefit people affected by stroke.

Our lecturers lead innovative research projects, and support and mentor early career researchers to help establish a strong research community in the UK. Together, researchers can drive improvements in treatment and care for people affected by stroke.

Our Postgraduate Fellowships enable outstanding graduates to obtain a postgraduate research qualification (MPhil or PhD), giving them the required skills to ultimately undertake an independent career in stroke research.
