NotFAST2 - Nottingham Fatigue study: developing a fatigue intervention
Type:
Fatigue is common after stroke, but there’s currently a lack of treatment available for fatigue after stroke. This research will create a fatigue management programme designed to support stroke survivors to self-manage their fatigue.
Is fatigue after stroke caused by reduced 'excitability' of the brain?
Type:
Up to 70% of stroke survivors complain of tiredness or fatigue, sometimes years after stroke. Unlike normal tiredness, post stroke fatigue does not always respond to rest. The cause of extreme tiredness is not known and there are no definitive treatments available. This research investigates the use of non-invasive brain stimulation to see whether low 'excitability' of the brain causes fatigue after stroke.
Post stroke fatigue investigation using transcranial magnetic stimulation and functional magnetic resonance imaging
Type:
Testing the idea that fatigue occurring after stroke is due to changes in the brain regions controlling the muscles using non-invasive brain stimulation and brain imaging techniques in 142 stroke patients, half of who will be those who complain of fatigue.
Fatigue and tiredness
Find out why you may experience severe tiredness (known as fatigue) after a stroke and what can be done to help you manage it.
Is delivering a management programme for post-stroke fatigue feasible?
Type:
The aim of this study is to develop a fatigue management programme to improve stroke survivors' knowledge of post stroke fatigue (PSF) and to identify ways of managing it.
Fatigue after stroke; what are the important factors?
Type:
This research will study 300 stroke survivors who have fatigue but not depression. It aims to identify factors independently associated with fatigue after stroke to help doctors find the best ways to treat and manage the condition.
